The tech layoff wave that began in 2022 has persisted through 2025, with more than 150,000 jobs cut across 549 companies last year alone, according to independent tracker Layoffs.fyi. So far this year, over 22,000 workers have been laid off, with February seeing the heaviest cuts at 16,084. As businesses continue to embrace artificial intelligence and automation, this tracker serves as a reminder of the human impact of these reductions and what may be at stake as innovation accelerates.

January
In January, approximately 2,403 employees were laid off across several companies. Cushion, a fintech startup valued at over $82 million, shut down operations entirely. Placer.ai cut 150 employees (18% of its workforce) to reach profitability. Amazon laid off dozens from its communications department to speed up decision-making. Stripe let go of 300 people but planned to grow headcount by 17%. Other reductions included Textio (15 employees), Pocket FM (75 employees), Aurora Solar (58 employees), Meta (5% of its workforce targeting low performers), Wayfair (up to 730 jobs in Germany), Pandion (63 employees, shutdown), Icon (114 employees), Altruist (37 employees), Aqua Security (dozens), SolarEdge Technologies (400 employees), and Level (abrupt shutdown).
February
February was the heaviest month with 16,234 layoffs. Major cuts included HP (up to 2,000 jobs), GrubHub (500 after acquisition), Autodesk (1,350 employees, 9% of workforce), Google (voluntary exit program in People Operations and cloud), Nautilus (25 employees), eBay (dozens in Israel), Starbucks (1,100 jobs, primarily tech), Commercetools (about 10% of staff in one day), Dayforce (5% of workforce), Expedia (unspecified number), Skybox Security (300 employees, ceased operations), HerMD (shutdown), Zendesk (51 jobs in San Francisco), Vendease (120 employees, 44% of staff), Logically (dozens), Blue Origin (1,000+ employees, 10% of workforce), Redfin (450 positions), Sophos (6% of workforce), Zepz (nearly 200 employees, closure in Poland and Kenya), Unity (unknown number), JustWorks (nearly 200 employees), Bird (120 jobs, one-third of workforce), Sprinklr (500 employees, 15% of workforce), Sonos (about 200 employees), Workday (1,750 employees, 8.5% of headcount), Okta (180 employees), Cruise (50% of workforce, including CEO, as GM wound down operations), and Salesforce (more than 1,000 jobs).
March
March saw 8,834 layoffs. Northvolt laid off 2,800 employees (62% of staff) after bankruptcy filing. Block cut 931 employees (8% of workforce) in a reorganization not linked to AI or finances. Brightcove cut 198 employees (two-thirds of U.S. staff) after acquisition by Bending Spoons. Acxiom laid off 130 employees (3.5% of workforce). Sequoia Capital closed its Washington office with three employees affected. Siemens cut approximately 5,600 jobs globally in automation and EV charging. HelloFresh laid off 273 employees and closed a distribution center. Otorio cut 45 employees after acquisition. ActiveFence reduced 22 employees (7% of workforce). D-ID laid off 22 employees (nearly a quarter). NASA shut several offices. Zonar Systems had undisclosed layoffs. Wayfair cut 340 employees in tech division. HPE cut 2,500 employees (5% of staff). TikTok cut up to 300 workers in Dublin. LiveRamp laid off 65 employees. Ola Electric laid off over 1,000 employees and contractors. Rec Room reduced headcount by 16%. ANS Commerce shut down after Flipkart acquisition.
April
April had more than 24,500 layoffs, the highest monthly total. NetApp eliminated 700 jobs (6% of workforce). Electronic Arts let go of 300–400 employees, including about 100 at Respawn Entertainment. Expedia laid off 3% of employees, mainly midlevel roles. Cars24 reduced 200 employees in product and tech. Meta let go of over 100 employees in Reality Labs. Intel announced plans to lay off more than 21,000 employees (roughly 20% of workforce) under new CEO Lip-Bu Tan. GM laid off 200 people at Factory Zero in Detroit. Zopper laid off around 100 employees year-to-date. Turo cut 150 positions after canceling IPO. GupShup laid off roughly 200 employees (second round in five months). Forto eliminated 200 jobs (one-third of staff). Wicresoft stopped operations in China, affecting about 2,000 employees. Five9 cut 123 jobs (4% of workforce). Google laid off hundreds in platforms and devices division. Microsoft contemplated additional layoffs. Automattic laid off 16% of workforce (more than 270 staff). Canva let go of 10–12 technical writers.
May
May saw 10,397 layoffs. Hims & Hers downsized 68 employees (4% of staff). Amazon laid off around 100 employees in devices and services. Microsoft cut over 6,500 jobs (3% of workforce). Chegg laid off 248 employees (22% of workforce). Match Group reduced workforce by 13%. CrowdStrike laid off 5% of global workforce (about 500 people). General Fusion cut roughly 25% of staff. Deep Instinct reduced 20 employees (10% of workforce). Beam shut down operations, letting go of approximately 200 employees.
June
June had 1,606 layoffs. TomTom cut 300 jobs (10% of workforce) in sales and support restructuring. Rivian reduced headcount by 140 employees (1% of total). Bumble cut 240 jobs (30% of workforce) to save $40 million annually. Klue laid off 85 employees (40% of workforce). Google downsized its smart TV division by 25% of its 300-member team. Intel planned to lay off 15–20% of workers in Intel Foundry division starting July. Playtika let go of 90 employees. Airtime let go of about 25 employees. Microsoft laid off more employees across engineering, product management, and marketing.
July
July had 16,327 layoffs. Atlassian cut 150 roles in customer service and support. Consensys cut 47 employees (7% of workforce). Zeen shut down operations. Scale AI laid off around 200 employees (14% of workforce) and severed ties with 500 contractors. Lenovo cut more than 100 U.S. full-time jobs (3% of U.S. workforce). Intel laid off nearly 2,400 workers in Oregon. Indeed and Glassdoor eliminated approximately 1,300 jobs combined. Eigen Lab laid off 29 employees (25% of workforce). Microsoft cut 9,000 employees (less than 4% of global workforce). ByteDance laid off 65 employees in Bellevue, Washington.
August
August had 6,302 layoffs. Cisco eliminated 221 positions in California. Restaurant365 laid off about 100 employees (9% of workforce). Oracle cut 101 jobs in Santa Clara and 161 in Seattle. F5 cut 106 positions in Washington. Peloton cut 6% of workforce (sixth layoff in a year). Kaltura cut 70 employees (10% of workforce). Yotpo laid off 200 employees (34% of workforce). Windsurf laid off 30 employees and offered buyouts to 200. Wondery cut 100 jobs and CEO departed.
September
September had 4,152 layoffs. Just Eat eliminated around 450 jobs. Fiverr cut 250 jobs (30% of workforce) to become AI-focused. ZipRecruiter closed its Tel Aviv development center, cutting about 80 jobs. GupShup laid off at least 100 employees. xAI laid off about 500 jobs (a third of data annotation team). Rivian laid off about 200 workers (1.5% of staff). Oracle cut 101 jobs in Seattle and 254 in San Francisco. Salesforce trimmed 262 jobs at its San Francisco headquarters.
October
October had 18,510 layoffs. Amazon eliminated up to 14,000 corporate roles, including 660 in New York City. Rivian cut 600 jobs (4% of workforce). Meta laid off approximately 600 employees across AI infrastructure. Applied Materials cut about 1,400 jobs (4% of workforce). Handshake laid off around 100 employees (15% of U.S. workforce). Smartsheet laid off over 120 employees. Google cut over 100 design roles in cloud division. Paycom laid off over 500 employees due to AI efficiencies.
November
November had 8,932 layoffs. Intel eliminated 59 Bay Area jobs. HP cut 4,000–6,000 jobs by 2028. Apple cut several sales positions. Monarch Tractor laid off more than 100 workers. Playtika laid off 700–800 employees (20% of workforce). Pipe laid off about 200 employees (half its workforce). Synopsys cut roughly 2,000 employees (10% of workforce). Deepwatch laid off 60–80 employees. Axonius cut roughly 100 employees (10% of staff). MyBambu shut down, laying off all 141 employees. Hewlett-Packard removed 52 positions in San Jose.
December
December so far has seen 300 layoffs. Zebra Technologies is winding down its AMR business, with most employees leaving by year-end. Amazon cut 84 jobs in Seattle and Bellevue. Lusha laid off 24 employees (8% of workforce). Tenstorrent cut 7.5% of workforce (reducing to 1,000). Payoneer cut about 30 employees in Israel and similar number overseas (6% of global workforce). VSCO laid off 24 employees as part of restructuring. Mobileye cut 200 employees (4% of global workforce). Inside Inbound Health shut down on December 1.
